In 1996 I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Instead of enjoying my summer vacation, or going to school after it ended, I spent several months in the hospital receiving treatment. Turns out it was a psuedo-tumor which is very rare but less life threatening. After a botched surgery I was left bed ridden for almost a month. During that time I could do almost nothing. The nurses tried to take me to children's playroom which had video games, but I was unable to sit up to play. When I heard about the GO Kart initiative from Gamer's Outreach I was super pumped! They are essentially portable gaming units for kids who cannot get out of bed in the hospital. If only this was a thing in 1996! The idea here is to bring an increased quality of life to children recieving long term care.
